Enrichment Presentations Start Tomorrow 05/17/2012
Enrichment: Today was your last day to work on your final project in class. If you haven't finished, you are to work on it at home. You signed up for your presentation day, so remember your day. The choice board link is on yesterday's blog. Language Arts: Today you wrote your final journal. The prompt is as follows: Imagine you are following Alice down the rabbit hole. Write about what your trip down the rabbit hole would be like. Use your imagination and be creative. Your journal must be at least ½ page. Enrichment: You spent class time working on your final project. The completed final project is to be finished by the end of class tomorrow. We will begin presenting on Friday, May 18. If you need to work on your project at home, but you left the choice board at school; you can download it from the attached file. Language Arts: You worked with your group on the "Jabberwocky" mural. The finished murals were posted in the hall at the end of class today. Don't forget if you haven't returned your permission slip for the movie, I have to have it tomorrow, or you will be in another classroom doing work.

Enrichment: Students worked on their tic-tac-toe choice board for their final project today. We will spend class time through Thrusday working on the projects. Presentations will begin on Friday. Language Arts: Don't forget your last homework assignment: Get your movie permission slip signed and returned to Mrs. Hanse by Wednesday, May 16. You worked with a group illustrating a stanza of "Jabberwocky". The illustration is due at the end of class tomorrow. We will put the illustrations together in the hall to create one large mural of the poem. Enrichment: You finished the book Restless Spirit today. All of your comprehension questions and vocabulary are due by the end of class on Friday, May 11. Final project directions will be distributed on Monday, May 14 and the project will be due at the end of class on Thursday, May 17. Language Arts: "The Power of Words" We started class with a comprehension warm-up about the first American newspaper cartoon drawn by Benjamin Franklin and published in the Pennsylvania Gazette. You then listened to Ms. Hanse read Mr. Peabody's Apples by Madonna. This is a story about a young boy ruining the reputation of the small town's elementary history teacher because he thought he was stealing. The young boy learned how powerful words really can be. The next step was to respond to the following journal: Journal How powerful are your words? Can they hurt, heal or invoke change? In two well written paragraphs, write about a time in which you or someone you know learned “The Power of Words” Write about an experience where your words or someone else’s words have had a noticeable effect on another person. What was the situation and how was the person effected? Explain the importance of choosing your words carefully and fully understanding a situation before you jump to a conclusion. What events can occur as a result of someone not choosing their words carefully? Can you think of a time in history when words were used to create change? Explain We ended class by watching a video about the power of words and how changing your words can change your world. Enrichment: Today was a work day. You worked on finishing everything that you have been assigned to date: chapters 8 - 10 vocab and comprehension questions and chapters 11 & 12 and the afterword vocab. Language Arts: You worked on finishing your "Generation Love" project. The opportunity was given for some extra credit today. Everyone was told they could earn 15 points extra credit by completing their own "Generation Love" poster. All of the "Generation Love" projects were due at the end of class today. Enrichment: You worked on completing the vocabulary and comprehenskon questions for chapters 8 - 10. If you finished all of that, you could start working on the vocabulary for chapters 11 & 12 and the afterword. We will be finished with the book by Friday of this week, and you will receive the instructions for your final project on Monday, 5/14 with the project due on Thursday, 5/17 at the end of class. You will be given time during class to work on the project. Language Arts: You completed day 2 of DGP 15. Then you were divided into pairs to work on a three part project that helps you see how your generation defines itself. Is that definitions good or bad? How do others see your generation? Enrichment: You read chapters 8 - 10 and worked on the comprehension questions for those chapters. Language Arts: You started your final DGP for the year today. There will be a quiz on Friday. The following journal prompt started the last day of "Shark Week": Write a paragraph explaining 3 facts that you learned about sharks over the past week. The facts must be in your own words not copied from the shark facts. The rest of class time was spent finishing the shark packet and watching a video on sharks. Enrichment: Students worked on finishing the vocabulary for chapters 8 - 10. Language Arts: Students finished the outline on the article "What do you know about Sharks?" and started the last assignment for Shark Week. A definition sheet and an illustration of a shark with the various fins and gils labeled. The entire packet for shart week which includes the following: Scavenger Hunt, Shark Facts, Outline, Definitions w/ rubric, and Picture You looked good on TV today! 05/03/2012

Language Arts: After watching the video of the High 5 field trip, you listened to the article "What do you know about sharks?"
